Santa Marta is the capital of one of the most important Caribbean regions: the Magdalena district. It is located between the bay and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Mountains, known for being one of the most popular tourist destinations in Caribbean Colombia, since it ’has it all’. From the highest mountains in the country to more than 100 beaches bathed by the Caribbean Sea. The most famous of these, Rodadero near Tayrona park, is one of Colombia’s most important natural parks. Known as the Tourist, Cultural and Historical District it has a great architectural inheritance as well as an important business district near the square Plaza del Mercado. The most important street, Calle 22, and the avenue Ferrocarril demarcate the city’s historical and commercial centre.
