Whether you want to enjoy a lovely vacation and visit Lisbon for the first time or if you are going for business matters for the tenth time; we recommend you stay at our hotels in Lisbon near the airport. You will definitely enjoy the most of the city if you stay at our convenient location. This city has as many places to visit as neighbourhoods and you will surely find one that will inevitably make you fall in love. Undoubtedly Lisbon has something that makes you want to visit it again in the future.
Usually, the best walks through Lisbon start from the Baixa, the historic centre of the Portuguese capital and the lowest and flattest area of the city. From the Don Pedro IV square, commonly known as Rossio, you can walk through the neighbourhood of Marquis of Pombal which was rebuilt in the XVIII century after an earthquake wiped out all of Lisbon.
Also, you will have several options at your fingertips. You can go up north along the Restauradores Square and the wide Avenida da Liberdade; a boulevard with beautiful gardens and the most exclusive shops in Lisbon. Nearby you will find our Sercotel Hotel Lisboa Plaza. From here you can take the Santa Justa elevator designed by a disciple of Eiffel and go up to the Barrio Alto. Here you will be able to immerse yourself in the most authentic Lisbon and listen to fados (traditional music) in its many nightclubs where the locals go for dinner, to have a drink or go out at night. You can also go to the Chiado neighbourhood, the intellectuals and bohemians’ favourite for its shops, museums, and cafés. In this last district, you will find the amazing Café a Brasileira, with the statue of Fernando Pessoa in the terrace.
In Lisbon there are plenty of slopes and viewpoints where you can appreciate different views of this city. The neighbourhood of Alfama will astonish you with the majestic Castle of San Jorge and from here you should definitely visit the viewpoints of Graça and Santa Luzia.
To give your legs a rest, it is convenient and highly recommended to get on the old tramways in Lisbon. Line 28 is a good option if you want to make a complete tourist tour of Lisbon.
While in Lisbon, there are many other places that we recommend for the most curious travellers. You should definitely admire the views of the Vasco de Gama bridge (the longest in Europe), the suspension bridge 25 de Abril or the revealing Gulbelkian Museum where you can admire an art collection and artwork from all around the world.
Surely with these recommendations, your visit to the city will be the most entertaining. If you are traveling with your children and you want to have an unforgettable vacation, we recommend you book with Sercotel Hotels at our family hotels in Lisbon. Enjoy the best facilities with your kids and discover all the beautiful places waiting for you and your family in Lisbon.
If you love architecture you should visit the neighbourhood of Belem. Here you will find several architectural gems such as the Jerónimos Monastery, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. Also, you shouldn’t miss the Tower of Belem, one of the main representative buildings of the Manueline style in Portugal. It was designed for defensive purposes in the XVI century and it’s also a World Heritage Site.
Important! Do not leave Belem without tasting their traditional pastéis de Belém, delicious cream cakes prepared since 1837 in a workshop next to the Jerónimos Monastery. You can also buy them to take away and taste them later on, when you are back at your hotel in Lisbon city centre; conveniently located nearby the most important touristic places.
