September is the best month to visit the province and find authentic Albacete hotels. The climate is warm and the province is full of festivities. The most interesting thing is Albacete’s fair , that is celebrated from the 7th to the 17th of September in honor to the Virgin of the Plains. The population quadruples in these ten days of games, fireworks, dances and bullfights. Another notable event is the International Circus Festival, in addition to several film, theatre and performing arts festivals.
Albaceteños like to party all year long. The nightlife of its main city is vibrant especially the El Campus and Los Titis area, full of bars and clubs. The outdoor market of the Invaders is another highlight. The most famous building in Albacete province is the capital's cathedral, dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Several of the architectural styles were used in the 400 years it took to build, making it a fascinating architectural piece and an important milestone. Part of the building is now a museum where the history of the cathedral is told.
The city's traditional houses are also worth a visit. They are characterized by a layout centered on a beautiful central courtyard, and some are adorned with coats of arms. You can find the best examples around Tejares Street. Even in the tourist office there is an interesting architectural piece.
In the capital, more specifically on Calle Ancha, you will find shopping centres full of international brands, as well as small boutiques and craft shops. The region is famous for the production of cutlery, knives and even swords.
In Albacete they are passionate about pork; bacon, pork loin and other products derived from this animal. The area is also known for consuming snails. This delicacy is traditionally consumed during the September festivities, but is often found all year round in tapas bars.
Albacete has plenty of green spaces and you can be sure to find a quiet place to rest. Abelardo Sánchez Park or Fiesta de Árbol Park are some of the places where you will find a relaxed atmosphere.
If you are a person who likes trekking and excursions you can not miss the Monte de Chinchilla, the nature reserve of Lagunas de Ruidera and the Sierra de Alcaraz. To the north, you can find the beautiful Júcar valley.
