León is perhaps the province with the most powerful name in Spain, evoking you to ancient times. León province hides magical places, among Bierzo vineyards, artisans, the Valle del Silencio, the Picos de Europa and much more. Discover the province and stay in charming hotels in Castile and Leon
We suggest you start in Astorga, the Maragatería capital. Two of Spain's best-known routes converge there, the Camino de Santiago and the Via de la Plata. We recommend that you visit the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace created by Antonio Gaudí.
Only 5 kilometres away is Castrillo de los Polvazares village. To lose yourself in its cobbled streets is an obligation. We also recommend that you go into one of its restaurants and enjoy the famous cocido maragato. It is the typical stew, but eaten the other way around; it starts with the meat, continues with the legumes and ends with the soup. And you can not leave without eating the typical dessert of the area, the natillas maragatas.
El Bierzo has many magical corners. Beautiful natural areas, lost valleys, imperious castles, old monasteries and a wine that makes the delight of the most exquisite. There are also the largest gold mines abroad, now declared a world heritage site. We recommend that you visit Ponferrada and its Templar Castle. There you can also taste an exquisite botillo enlivened by local wine. For dessert you have to claim a Reineta del Bierzo.
If what you are looking for is peace and well-being, we recommend that you travel to the Valley of Silence and visit one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, Peñalba de Santiago. Its houses huddled around the 10th century monastery of San Genadio together with the wineries in the area are of exceptional beauty.
