The most common activity in this town is bathing in the sea and enjoying its beautiful beaches and cliffs along the coastline. There are 12 beaches in town, but the most famous is Burriana beach without a doubt. Here the well-known series "Verano Azul" was filmed, one of the most famous Spanish series from the 80’s. If you want to discover paradise we recommend going to Maro beach and enjoy its beautiful waterfalls, underwater caves and a wide variety of plants. Nearby is the Caleta de Maro beach and a few steps away from the city centre you can visit Alberquillas beach. There you can enjoy crystalline waters inside a nature reserve area. Also, there are many other places that you can go to if you want to spend a few days tanning on this wonderful coast.
Walking through the centre of this town it’s a pleasure for the senses. You will be surrounded by cobbled streets, Andalusian courtyards, whitewashed facades and the hospitality of its people. Visiting the "Balcón de Europa" is a must; it’s definitely the best viewpoint to take a spectacular photo of the Mediterranean. Also, you will not get bored with all the hustle and bustle around the area from the painters, jugglers, musicians, restaurants, and shops.
There are other outstanding tourist spots such as the Town Hall, El Salvador church, the Hermitage of Our Lady of Las Angustias, Plaza España, Plaza de Los Cangrejos, Plaza Andalucía or the Plaza Tutti Frutti. During your visit you cannot miss an excursion to the Nerja Caves, where you will find the largest and longest stalactite in the world; is 33 meters high and it has a diameter of 13x7 meters. In 1985 paintings of the Stone Age were found here and were declared a cultural asset since then; in this area, you can also find all kind of formations that you can imagine. The interior of the cave is divided into two different galleries; we definitely recommend visiting the lookout point inside the Sala del Colmillo de Elefante (The Elephant Tusk Chamber).
